Calling all campers.....
The Club's summer camp is usually held at either the start or end of the school summer holidays for a long weekend at a venue in the Lakes. Whilst the past few events have been great fun (with the exception of last year, which was spoiled by strange phenomenon called non-stop rain!!), the Committee feel it is time for a change, and we would like your views?? We have had a number of suggestions ranging from keeping it as it is, going somewhere else, somewhere further such as Scotland, somewhere more local such as West Tanfield with its river access, shop, cafe and pub... involving less travel and hassle, to going abroad as a group for longer such as a campsite next to a river n France... guaranteed sun... and so on. We want your ideas... so go on, comment on the blog and we will make a decision in March..... cheers, Des

We really enjoyed camp the year we came, so would like to come again. I can't speak for the rest of the family, but somewhere within a couple of hours drive would suit me. More fun, less travel.

Like family Hallet family Moss really enjoyed the camp weekend (2006) the mix of campsite chatter, canoeing and biking was great. Those who organise such events (Scott in 06 I think) deserve our support. I agree with Kirsty about keeping the distance within reasonable levels but would be prepared for a slightly more distant venture - perhaps the West coast of Scotland or Dumfries area. However the lakes is a good venue - far enough away to make it worth camping and staying overnight (It's not worth camping at Slenningford in my opinion as its only a few of miles from home.)On the other hand distant venues may be less atractive to many and then there's the problem of getting kit there - especially for those who have little personal gear. I fear if the camp was too distant it may risk becoming elitist.
We would have liked to join the camp in 07 but were away - perahaps it is better to choose a weekend either side of the School Hol's (though avoiding exam times!!!.

Yes, maybe the last weekend before school breaks up? All exams are over, and the weather is usually decent in July!
I really need to get out in my boat - have been stuck indoors for months...
